My Client Fasted for 3 Days and Didn't Lose a Single Pound. Here's Why.
Share
My client Michelle stopped eating for three days. A full dry fast. No food. No water. Nothing.
She did not lose a single pound.
If you've ever been told that weight loss is about eating less and moving more, that should make you very uncomfortable. Because if that were true, three days of not eating anything should have done something. It didn't. And I'm going to tell you exactly why, because it's the same reason nothing has worked for you either.
The problem was never her food. It was her blood.
The Lie You've Been Told Your Whole Life
You've been told that weight is a math equation. Calories in, calories out. Eat less, move more. And if that doesn't work, eat even less and move even more. And if that doesn't work, you must be doing something wrong.
Keto. Intermittent fasting. Weight Watchers. Noom. CrossFit. Ozempic. Mounjaro. Gastric bypass. The entire weight loss industry is built on one assumption: you are consuming too much and doing too little. And the solution is discipline.
So when a woman gains weight, what does the world tell her? You're lazy. You're not trying hard enough. You lack willpower. You're making bad choices.
And she internalizes that. She believes it. She's ashamed of her body. She stops going outside. She isolates. She eats to cope with the shame of eating. And the cycle gets worse.
Write this down: weight gain is not a moral failure. It is a hormonal response to dirty blood in an environment your body cannot regulate in.
Your hormones travel through your blood. Every single one. Cortisol, insulin, leptin, ghrelin, melatonin, growth hormone. They don't float in the air. They circulate in the bloodstream. And when your blood is dirty, overloaded with waste, inflammatory markers, and metabolic debris that should have been cleared but wasn't, those hormones can't deliver their signals properly. Your body doesn't know when to store fat and when to release it. It doesn't know when you're hungry and when you're full. It doesn't know when it's safe. So it defaults to protection mode. It holds onto everything.
What Was Actually Happening to Michelle
When Michelle came to me, she weighed 227 pounds at about five foot three. She had severe constipation. She hadn't had a bowel movement without medication in seven years. She had swelling in her legs and feet. She had depression. She had no energy. She hadn't been outside in twelve years.
Twelve years.
She had tried everything. Doctors. Specialists. Diet changes. Supplements. Her father was close to putting her on Mounjaro. She had almost accepted that this was just her life.
Before we started the program together, she tried a three-day dry fast on her own. No food. No water. Three full days. She did not lose a single pound.
During that fast, she was inside the entire time. No sunlight. She was on her laptop all day and well into the night. The room was never dark. The screens never stopped.
Her blood had no idea what time of day it was. It was carrying cortisol around the clock because there was no light signal telling it to stop. Melatonin wasn't being produced because she never slept in darkness, so her blood never got cleaned overnight. Growth hormone was suppressed because the overnight repair cycle wasn't running. Her blood was dirty. Her hormones were scrambled. Her body was in permanent emergency mode.
She could have stopped eating for a week and it would not have mattered. Because food was never the problem. Her blood was the problem. And fasting doesn't clean dirty blood. It just stops adding to the pile. The pile was still there.
Why Your Body Holds Weight on Purpose
Your body is unbelievably intelligent. It doesn't gain weight by accident. It gains weight on purpose.
When your blood never receives the signal from sunlight, your body doesn't know what time it is. It doesn't know if it's day or night. It doesn't know if it's summer or winter. And when the blood is carrying the wrong hormones at the wrong time, constantly elevated cortisol, no melatonin rhythm, disrupted insulin signaling, your body interprets that as an emergency. The same way a bear prepares for winter.
The body says: something is wrong. My blood chemistry says crisis. I don't know when food is coming. I don't know if it's safe. I'm going to hold onto everything I have.
That's not a dysfunction. That's survival. Your body is protecting you. But it's protecting you based on what's in your blood. And what's in your blood is wrong.
When your blood is carrying disrupted hormones, your hunger signals are wrong too. You crave sugar because your blood is signaling the need for quick energy to survive the perceived emergency. You eat more at night because the cortisol and melatonin in your blood are flipped. You eat for comfort because your nervous system is exhausted from being in alert mode all day and the blood is dumping stress hormones nonstop.
This is not a lack of discipline. This is biology responding to dirty blood in a broken environment.
No amount of dieting or exercising is going to clean your blood. All dieting does is add more stress to a body that's already in protection mode. You restrict food, the body panics more and holds tighter. You exercise intensely, the body burns through what little energy it has and then crashes. Then you eat to recover. And the cycle repeats.
This is why you've gained the weight back every single time. You were never addressing the blood.
What Actually Worked
When Michelle entered my program, we didn't change her diet. We didn't put her on an exercise plan. We didn't count a single calorie. We started cleaning her blood.
She started drinking distilled water. Pure water with nothing in it. Distilled water doesn't just hydrate. It draws out stored waste that's been sitting in the gut, the tissues, the organs for years. Her intestines were congested. Her blood was thick with debris it couldn't clear. The distilled water started thinning the blood, flushing the pathways, giving her body a way to actually eliminate what it had been holding onto.
We also removed the inputs draining her nervous system. The constant screen exposure. The caffeine. The dopamine cycle. The information overload. All of it was dumping stress hormones into her blood around the clock. Her body needed to come down from alert mode before her blood could start to regulate.
Then we regulated. She started getting morning sunlight within the first hour of waking. Not through a window. Direct light on her skin and in her eyes. She slept in complete darkness. No screens after sunset. Consistent sleep and wake times.
Her blood finally received the signal that it was daytime. That it was safe. That it wasn't winter. That the emergency was over. The cortisol in her blood started dropping. The melatonin cycle restored. Her blood started getting cleaned overnight for the first time in years.
And then her body did something remarkable. It started letting go.
She had her first unmedicated bowel movement in seven years. Her body began releasing what it had been holding onto, because for the first time, her blood was clean enough and regulated enough for her body to feel safe. And when the body feels safe, it stops storing. It starts releasing.
She lost 30 pounds in four months. No diet. No exercise program. No calorie restriction. No medication.
Her energy came back. Her mood stabilized. She was walking daily. The fat deposit on the back of her neck that had been there for years disappeared.
Her body didn't need to be forced. It needed clean blood. And once the blood was clean, it did what it was always designed to do.
It's Not Your Fault
If you've been carrying weight that won't move, I want you to hear something that nobody in the weight loss space will say to you.
It's not your fault. You're not lazy. You're not broken. You're not lacking willpower.
Your blood is dirty. And you've been given terrible advice by an industry that has never once looked at your blood.
You've been told to eat less when the problem is what's circulating inside your body. You've been told to exercise more when your blood doesn't have the hormonal balance to support recovery from a normal day. You've been told to try harder when your blood chemistry is making it biologically impossible to lose weight without cleaning the blood first.
If you're not in a position to work with me right now, here's what you can do today for free. Start drinking distilled water. You can get it for about a dollar a gallon from any grocery store. Get morning sunlight within the first hour of waking. Go outside. Let the light hit your skin and your eyes. And when it's time to sleep, make that room completely dark. No phone. No TV. No LEDs. Dark.
Start there. Your blood will start cleaning. And your body will tell you what happens next.
