Why I Stopped Going to Dermatologists After 27 Years

Why I Stopped Going to Dermatologists After 27 Years

If you have been going to a dermatologist for years and your skin keeps getting worse, this is why.

I saw three different dermatologists over the course of my life. Every single one prescribed me steroid creams. Every single one was surprised when it did not work. And not a single one asked what was causing the inflammation in the first place. They just kept prescribing stronger creams.

The last one prescribed a steroid so strong, I was told to stop applying it after three days, no matter what. Three days. That is how powerful the cream was. And even that was temporary. My rash came back the moment I stopped.

So I stopped going to dermatologists. And that is when my skin actually healed.

Why Dermatologists Keep Prescribing the Same Thing

Every dermatology appointment I had ever been to followed the exact same pattern. I would go in with a flare up. They would look at my skin. They would prescribe a corticosteroid cream. And they would tell me to apply it and come back if it did not improve.

It would calm down temporarily. Then it would come back. So I would go back and they would prescribe another cream. Sometimes stronger, sometimes a different brand, but always the same approach. Put something on the surface of the skin to suppress what the body is doing.

Not once did anyone ask what was happening inside my body. Not once did anyone connect my eczema to my gut, my digestion, my immune system, or anything beyond the surface of my skin.

When I Told My Dermatologist What Was Causing My Flare Ups

I had a flare up once that I knew was connected to something I had eaten. I had been researching on my own. I told my dermatologist exactly what I thought triggered it. And you know what they said?

"Well, don't eat it."

And that was it. No curiosity about why that food caused a reaction. No exploration of what was happening internally. Just avoid the trigger. And here is another cream.

That was the moment I realized that dermatologists are trained to treat the skin, not the body that the skin is attached to.

Why Dermatologists Cannot Heal Chronic Eczema

I want to be clear. I am not saying dermatologists are bad people. I am not saying they do not care. The three that I saw were all trying to help me, but they are trained in one thing: treating the skin from the outside. That is their entire education. That is their entire toolkit.

When you go to a dermatologist with eczema, the only solution they have is something to apply to your skin. A cream, a steroid, a topical treatment. They do not study nutrition. They do not study the gut skin connection. They do not study how internal environments create external symptoms. That is not their field.

The Painter and the Leaking Pipe

Asking a dermatologist to fix chronic eczema is like asking a painter to fix a leaking pipe because the wall looks damaged. They can repaint the wall, but the leak is still there behind it.

Why Your Eczema Keeps Coming Back After Every Appointment

If you have been going to dermatologists for years and your eczema keeps coming back, it is not because you have not found the right doctor. It is because the right doctor for this problem does not exist within that system.

The system is designed to manage your skin, not heal your body. Every cream they give you is a fresh coat of paint on the wall with the leak behind it.

If I had kept going, I would be on my fourth or fifth dermatologist by now. Maybe a stronger steroid, maybe an immunosuppressant, maybe a biologic. Still covered up, still hiding, still treating the wall while the leak got worse behind it. That was the path I was on and it had no end.

How I Healed 27 Years of Eczema Without a Dermatologist

When I stopped going to dermatologists and started paying attention to what was happening inside my body, I discovered something that 27 years of appointments never taught me.

My skin was not the problem. My skin was the messenger. It was telling me that something was internally overwhelmed, and every cream I ever applied was just telling that signal to shut up without addressing why it was firing in the first place.

What I Removed Instead of What I Added

I stopped adding things to my body and started removing what was burdening it. The inputs were exhausting my system before it could even begin to heal. I gave my body the right light at the right time. Real sunlight in the morning, real darkness at night. My hormones started functioning the way they were supposed to. My body started knowing what to do and when to do it.

My Skin Regenerated Without Any Cream

Then my body started doing something no cream had ever done. It started producing new cells. New skin cells replaced the damaged ones. The skin that steroids had destroyed started coming back. The protective barrier that had been stripped for 27 years rebuilt itself. My skin did not just clear up, it regenerated.

The Difference Between Suppressing a Symptom and Actually Healing

When I was using steroid creams, I would apply them to a flare up and have to wait minutes for relief. Minutes where the urge to scratch the cream was unbearable. And even when it calmed down, the flare up would come back every time without fail.

But when I stopped using creams and let my body do the work, the relief was immediate. Not minutes. Immediate. And as long as I stayed consistent, the flare ups stopped coming back entirely.

What you are seeing in the video above is my real skin. No makeup, zero filters, 4K. I never touch my face in post when I am editing. This is what my skin looks like without a dermatologist. And this is the difference between suppressing a symptom and actually healing.

What to Do If Your Dermatologist Is Not Helping Your Eczema

If you are going to dermatologists and your skin keeps flaring up, I understand. I went for 27 years. I wanted someone else to fix it for me. I wanted someone with a medical degree to hand me the answer.

But the answer was never on a prescription pad. The answer was inside my body the entire time. My body knew how to heal my skin. I just needed to stop overwhelming it and let it do what it was designed to do.

Your dermatologist can manage your symptoms, but they cannot heal your body. Those are two very different things.

I put together a free health assessment. It takes two minutes. You answer five questions about what is going on with your body right now, and it shows you what is most likely blocking your healing and what to do about it.

Clean the blood. The body takes care of the rest.
