You Don't Have Chronic Illness. You Have a Relocation Problem.

I worked with a woman who was raised in a hot equatorial climate. She moved to Canada for three months. Three months. Within weeks her body started shutting down. Energy gone. Skin going gray. Constipation worsening. Mood collapsing. She came home and her body recovered within days. She had been seeing doctors in Canada the entire time she was there. Not one of them had asked her where she came from.
You don't have chronic illness. You have a relocation problem.
Your body was calibrated for one climate. You are living in another. Your hormones, your skin, your nervous system, your digestion, every system in your body is reading inputs that do not match the inputs you were built for. And the medical system that has been managing you for a decade has no framework for this. So you get a vitamin D pill. A steroid cream. A mood prescription. A protocol for a condition that would not exist if your body were living where it was designed to live.
Two kinds of bodies
There are two kinds of bodies. Sun People and Ice People. Until you know which one you are, every health decision you make is a guess.
Sun People are the women whose bodies thrive in heat. Strong direct sunlight. Warm water. Warm food. They can stay in the sun for hours without burning, and the longer they are in it, the more their body settles. Their melanin protects them. Their nervous system calms. Their digestion runs cleanly when the climate is warm. Their mind goes quiet.
Ice People are the opposite. Their bodies thrive in cold. They prefer cooler environments, lighter air, less direct sun. They burn quickly in strong sunlight. They handle ice baths and cold plunges without distress. Their metabolism runs cleaner when the temperature is low.
Both bodies are correct. Neither one is healthier than the other. They are built differently, and biology backs this all the way down. The Fitzpatrick scale measures skin types from Type 1, the palest, to Type 6, the darkest. Type 1 burns in twenty minutes of direct sun and rarely tans. Type 6 rarely burns and produces enormous amounts of protective melanin in response to sunlight. These are not lifestyle preferences. They are inherited adaptations to specific latitudes.
The part the medical system has no language for
Most chronically ill women I work with are Sun People living Ice People lives.
Their ancestors lived in equatorial or near-equatorial climates. Their bodies expect strong, year-round sunlight, warm food, warm climate, daily contact with the natural environment. Instead, they live in northern industrial cities. Six months of winter. Three months of weak summer sun filtered through clouds. Most of their daylight indoors under fluorescent lights. Office buildings, screens, climate control. They eat cold food from refrigerators. They drink cold drinks. They sleep with bright bedroom lights on until midnight. Their entire daily environment is calibrated for a body that is not theirs.
And the medical system tells her she has eczema. Vitamin D deficiency. Mood disorder. Fatigue. PMS. PCOS. SAD. IBS. Chronic inflammation. Hashimoto's.
None of those are diagnoses in the way the system pretends they are. They are symptoms of geographic mismatch. A Sun Person whose body never receives the inputs it was calibrated for will manifest dysfunction in every system, in slightly different ways, and the medical system will name each one of those dysfunctions as a separate disease and prescribe a separate suppressant for it.
Another woman I worked with. Indian, raised between cultures, living in New York, on the verge of moving to Norway for a PhD program. Vitamin D deficient. Chronic fatigue. Mental health declining. Her doctor had prescribed a pill. The pill was not working. When she sat in front of me and said the word Norway, what I told her was simple. Your body wants to be in India. Or somewhere in the south. Anywhere strong sunlight reaches the skin every single day of the year. The vitamin D deficiency is not because your body is broken. It is because your body is correctly reporting the absence of an input it was built to receive.
She laughed. Because it was so true. Her body had been telling her for years and every authority figure she had ever spoken to had told her something else.
The Ice Person side matters too
Ice People who try to follow Sun People wellness advice, long sun exposure, fruit-based diets, equatorial-style living, burn, struggle, decline. The pale red-haired woman who tries to sunbathe like a Black woman is doing damage to a body that is not built for that input. Universal wellness advice fails her too, in the opposite direction.
The medical system fails both groups for the same reason. It operates on a fictional default body, a body with no climate, no ancestry, no constitution. A body that should respond uniformly to inputs because that is what makes mass-protocol care profitable. Custom care, calibrated to constitution, cannot be mass-produced and cannot be subscribed to. Universal advice is the only thing the system can sell at scale.
So you have been receiving advice designed for a body that does not exist. And when that advice does not work, you have been told the problem is you. Your genetics. Your culture. Your discipline. Your stress levels.
Your genetics are the answer. Just not in the way you have been told.
What your body is actually asking for
If you are a Sun Person whose ancestry traces back to climates near the equator, your body needs strong direct sunlight daily, on your skin and through your eyes. Not through a window. Not filtered through sunscreen. Not replaced with a vitamin D capsule. The sun itself, every day, for hours when your body asks for it.
If you cannot access that where you currently live, you have three options. Move closer to it. Travel to it for longer stretches when you can. Or carry the awareness that your body is operating below its threshold and adjust everything else, your food, your darkness exposure at night, your removal of chronic inputs that overload an already-deprived system, to compensate as much as possible. None of those options involve a supplement.
If you are an Ice Person, the inverse. Limit sun exposure. Avoid heat extremes. Cool environments. Cool foods. Your body knows the brief.
Both groups share one principle. Surrender. When the Sun Person stands in strong sun, she surrenders to it. When the Ice Person enters cold water, she surrenders to it. Both states are doorways into the body's deepest regulatory rhythms. Both states do the work the medical system has been trying to mimic with pills for a hundred years and failing.
Within my framework, this is part of Regulate. Sunlight at the right times. Darkness at the right times. Climate alignment when it can be achieved. The body restoring itself when those signals are correct. But you cannot Regulate correctly if you do not know what your body is.
So the work, the moment you take your health seriously, starts here. Not with a protocol. Not with a supplement. Not with a diagnosis. With one question. Sun Person or Ice Person. Where did your ancestors live, and where does your body still expect to be?
What this has cost you
Add up what you have already spent. The vitamin D pills. The mood prescriptions. The light therapy lamps. The supplements your doctor swore would fix the fatigue. The years of being told your body was broken. Whatever the number is, that is a subscription. The women who exit this get something back that no pill could give them. They get their body back. The body that has been correctly reporting the absence of its inputs for years.
The Cell Scan is where this starts. It is a free document I wrote for women who have spent years being told their body is broken when their body is just somewhere it was never built to be. It walks you through what your body has been telling you, in language you recognize from your own life. Most women read it and see their whole life on the page. The pills that did not work. The diagnoses that kept multiplying. The advice that was built for someone else's body.
Read it before you accept one more diagnosis built for a body that is not yours.
Vivienne Lamb resolved 11 chronic conditions in her own body by addressing the root cause, not the diagnosis. She trains women with chronic health conditions to do the same.
